The weekly shop is done. You’ve checked the labels, navigated the aisles, and your fridge and cupboards are stocked with foods you trust to be safe for you and your family.
But what happens next? What if a manufacturer makes a mistake on the production line? A product you bought just yesterday is suddenly recalled for an undeclared allergen, but the news doesn’t reach you in time.
This is a hidden anxiety for everyone in the food allergy community. The thought that a trusted product could become a risk after it’s already in your home is a heavy burden to carry.
Today, we’re introducing a feature designed to help lift that burden.
Official FSA Allergy Alert Integration
We are proud to announce that Mealeez now integrates directly with the UK’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) to bring official allergy alerts right into your app.
Our system constantly monitors for new alerts. When the FSA flags a product due to undeclared allergens, we immediately cross-reference it with our extensive food database.

Note: These screens show “Caution” due to the presence of Garlic, which has been marked as a “moderate” allergen in the users Allergy Profile.
Here’s how it protects you:
- On-Page Alerts: Any product in our database that is subject to an active FSA allergy alert will be clearly marked with an official warning, just like the one above. You’ll see the risk statement, the specific undeclared allergen, and a direct link to the official FSA announcement.
- Proactive Push Notifications: This is the most powerful part. If a recalled product is on one of your saved grocery lists, we will send a push notification directly to your phone to warn you.
This feature turns Mealeez from a shopping tool into a vigilant guardian for your kitchen, looking out for you even after you’ve put the groceries away.
Why This Feature Will Always Be Free
From the moment we conceived of this feature, we knew it had to be available to everyone, without restriction.
Critical, time-sensitive health information should never be hidden behind a paywall.
At its core, Mealeez is about providing clarity and safety. Your safety is, and will always be, our absolute top priority.
While our PLUS subscription unlocks powerful features for convenience and discovery, core safety features like this one will always remain free for all members of the Mealeez community.
Important: How to Get the Most Out of This Feature
This new layer of protection is incredibly powerful, but it’s important to understand how it works and to use it as part of a complete safety strategy. Please keep the following in mind:
- 1. Notifications Are Tied to Your Saved Items: The push notification system works by checking alerts against the products you have personally saved. If you haven’t saved an item to a list, we won’t know to notify you about it. The more you use Mealeez to build your lists of safe foods, the more effective this protective feature becomes.
- 2. Our Database is Always Growing: We have a vast and ever-expanding database of UK grocery products, but we don’t have everything. It is possible that the FSA could issue an alert for a product that is not yet in the Mealeez system.
- 3. The FSA is the Definitive Source: We strongly encourage you to continue using the official FSA website as your primary source for all recall information. Mealeez is a powerful supplementary tool designed to provide an extra, convenient layer of protection, but it should not be your only source of safety alerts. You can sign up for the FSA’s official alerts here.
A New Level of Peace of Mind
We are incredibly proud to bring this feature to the Mealeez app. We believe it represents a significant step forward in using technology to make life with food allergies just a little bit easier and a whole lot safer.
Update your app today or visit our website, then start building your saved items lists, and enjoy a new level of peace of mind.
